Also an interior view of Fort Desperate taken after the surrender, this picture was taken of the same damaged gun as was the previous picture, but from the opposite side.  On the ground in the foreground are what appear to be projectiles for the cannon, as well as parts of the destroyed wheel.  The horizontal slats of wood in the background comprise the cover for a dugout where the Confederate troops sought refuge from the Union artillery and sharpshooters.  On the right is the parapet on the "front" side of the fort, while the opposite wall is the "left flank".
