Admiral Farragut's Ships - USS Genesee

This is the gunboat USS Genesee shown off Baton Rouge in 1863.  For the upstream run by Port Hudson, Farragut had the Genesee lashed to the port side of the large steamship USS Richmond, to provide more power and control against the current to help get the larger ship through.  The two ships were damaged and forced to turn back.  (Photo from the U.S. Naval Historical Center .)
