Admiral Farragut's Ships - USS Hartford

Admiral David Farragut's flagship, USS Hartford, in a painting by E. Arnold.  A screw sloop, the Hartford was powerfully armed with 9-inch Dahlgren guns on the broadside batteries and rifled pivot guns.  The Hartford and the gunboat Albatross which was lashed to its port side, were the only two of Farragut's ships to make it past Port Hudson's guns on the night of March 14, 1863.  Both ships were damaged.
