I must return my thanks to Lieuts. Dabney and Ferret of the corps of engineers for their able services in assisting me in planting "torpedoes" also to Capt Girard who likewise assisted them. To the two former gentlemen I feel much indebtedness for their able services in assisting me in planning and building my works, erected after the seige commenced.
