Admiral Farragut's Ships - USS Richmond

The steamer Richmond, shown here off Baton Rouge, LA in 1863.  The Richmond, a powerful screw sloop with 25 guns, was one of the largest and most beautiful ships in Farragut's fleet.  The gunboat Genesee was lashed to the port side of the Richmond during the attempt to run the Port Hudson batteries.  Both ships were damaged and forced to turn back.  (Photo from LSU Library-Suydam Collection.)
